*Although traditionally the Winner of the KAUNAS PHOTO STAR competition is announced at the Kaunas Photography Gallery, this year, due to the renovation of Vilnius Street, the gallery is closed, and the works of the KAUNAS PHOTO STAR 2021 Finalists are integrated into the festival programme.

– Photography projections “Stepping into old age”. Curated by the festival’s coordinator Karolina Krinickaitė, the projections will feature a part of the series submitted to the KAUNAS PHOTO Open Call on the theme “Age”;

“Into The Underworld”. Artist talk by Chirag Jindal (India/New Zealand), artist and surveyor who works at the intersection of documentary journalism and contemporary cartography;

– Music by Patris Židelevičiusimprovisations that combine the sound of classical instruments like the cello, field recordings and digital sounds.

– Projection of the photographs from the series Do Not Forget, You Are Not In Lithuania by Martha Thomas (USA) accompanied by the readings of Daina Klimauskaitė’s memoir of a youth in Siberia. The memoirs will be read by Olita Dautartaitė, Lithuanian theatre and film actress, poetry reader.

– Virtual meeting with the festival’s competition KAUNAS PHOTO STAR 2021 Finalists and projections of their series;

Announcement of the Winner of KAUNAS PHOTO STAR 2021 Award;

– Music by composer, pianist-improviser Kęstutis Paulaitis.

17:30-19:00 Tour on wheels of the outdoor exhibitionsWorld Car-Free Day. During a 1h 30min and 12 km low difficulty tour on bicycles and electric scooters, we will visit four outdoor photo exhibitions of the 18th KAUNAS PHOTO photography festival:

The meeting point and the starting point of the tour will be near Kaunas Castle (in front of A. Jakšto St. 18), then the tour will follow the cycling path along the Nemunas riverbank to Žemieji Šančiai (to the square at A. Juozapavičiaus pr. 57), and back along the riverbank it will end at Vienybės Square. The event is open to all and free of charge. For everyone’s convenience and to ensure the tour runs smoothly, please arrive near Kaunas Castle a few minutes before the start of the event, remember to observe the rules of polite riding and have your bike lights on the front and the back of your bicycle.

18:00 “Let’s look at the family album creatively”artist talk and virtual meeting with the artist Caroline Minjolle (Switzerland) at Kaunas Municipal Vincas Kudirka Public Library–Park Branch (P. Lukšio St. 60). C. Minjolle’s series “RENDEZ-VOUS”that she created during 25 years with her growing sonsis being exhibited at the nearby Chechnya Square As part of the KAUNAS PHOTO festival’s programme. The event will be held in English with translation to Lithuanian. Duration ~45 min. Free admission.

19:00 Humane stories in Rosa Mariniello’s portraits—open lecture with photographer and head of KTU Photo Studio Donatas Stankevičius at KTU III Chamber (Laisvės Ave. 13, 4th floor). We will have the opportunity to hear the photographer herself, Rosa Mariniello (Italy), in a special video recording dedicated to KAUNAS PHOTO festival. The event will take place at KTU Photo Studio (KTU III Chamber, Laisvės Ave. 13, 4th floor). Rosa Mariniello’s portrait series “The Suspended Youth”—on display at the same building, KTU III Chamber’s 4th floor until October 31—is one of the eight Finalists of the KAUNAS PHOTO STAR 2021 contest on the theme “Age”. Duration ~30 min. Free admission.

November 3, Wednesday

[ CANCELLED ] ● 18:00 “Older women in the representation of beauty”—artist talk and meeting with the photographer Clélia Rochat (France/Belgium) at the Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum (Rotušės Sq. 13). The event will be hosted by prof. Kristina Juraitė, KAUNAS PHOTO co-founder, head of the Department of Public Communications at Vytautas Magnus University. The meeting will be held by remote video conference in English language with translation into Lithuanian. Duration ~45 min. Free admission.
