On September 5, 2019, KAUNAS PHOTO festival kicked-off with “Digital-Virtual-Real” thematic exhibition openings.

At 5 pm the exhibition was opened in the Museum of Lithuanian Education History. The works of 2 artists are showcased in the Museum:

At 6 pm the exhibition was inaugurated at M. Žilinskas Art Gallery. The Gallery hosts the largest part of the program, featuring 10 international photographers and artists:

The day culminated with KAUNAS PHOTO NIGHT at 10 pm in the summer terrace “Laukas”, where projections of photographs were shown and artists participating in the festival talked about their work. 8 international artists visiting the festival presented their works: Agata Wieczorek (Poland), Paulo Simão (Portugal), Kai Löffelbein (Germany), Marko Zink (Austria), Maxime Matthys (Belgium), John Angerson (UK), Irina Popova (Russia / The Netherlands), Diogo Maia (Portugal).

The night concluded with an intriguing live-coding performance. Guoda Kaminskė and Andrius Palivonas shared their musical experiments and hypnotizing visuals accompanied by an electric guitar.

The festival’s opening events resumed the following day with portfolio reviews and “KAUNAS PHOTO STAR 2019 Finalists” exhibition openings across 5 venues in Kaunas old town. The route finished at Kaunas photography gallery with the announcement of the Winner of KAUNAS PHOTO STAR Award.

KAUNAS PHOTO’19 exhibitions can be visited from September 5 to October 6. Outdoor exhibitions are on display until October 31.

On 13th of September KAUNAS PHOTO festival invited to the guided tour at M. Žilinskas Art Gallery, M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art (Nepriklausomybės sq. 12). Later photographer Vladimir Antaki (France/Canada) presented his work “Family Portrait” and continued at Volfas Engelman Studio during KAUNAS PHOTO NIGHT.

On 7th of September KAUNAS PHOTO festival opened several exhibitions and invited to the KAUNAS PHOTO NIGHT-photography projections night.

The main program of the 15th KAUNAS PHOTO festival will start on 1st of September with works of close to 40 artists, exhibitions in 8 museums, galleries, 4 open air spaces and almost 30 free events. Thematically, the festival explores “Comfort Zone” and its margins. KAUNAS PHOTO Open Call was a huge success, bringing about 300 proposals of photographers from 43 countries of the world. 24 photographers’ works were selected for the KAUNAS PHOTO festival program, 2 of them carried out artist residencies in Kaunas, and other 3 photographers will undertake residencies in small towns of Lithuania in September.

KAUNAS PHOTO is the longest-running annual international photo art festival in Lithuania and the Baltic States. Since its first edition in 2004, it’s been organised by the NGO „Šviesos raštas“ and is regarded to be one of the most important continuous art events in the country. KAUNAS PHOTO is a member of „Festivals of Light“ organisation. The founder and the director of the festival is Mindaugas Kavaliauskas.

On 8 of September, afternoon, at Kaunas department of State Tax Inspectorate (Juozapavičiaus prospektas street 57) we discussed about the financial heavens. Ligita Brazlauskienė the director of Kaunas department of Control, State Tax Inspectorate, Valdemaras Katkus independent financial analyst and Paolo Woods the author of photography series “The Heavens. Annual Report” were present. 

On 4-5 of September KAUNAS PHOTO festival took a place in Nida. International Photography Symposium. At the Nida’s Art Colony were seaside portfolio reviews; at “Agila” cultural center – announcment of portfolio reviews winner; at caffe “Zuikio daržas” – KAUNAS PHOTO NIGHT – photography prohections.

On 1 of September KAUNAS PHOTO festival invited to the openining weekend and opend 6 new exhibitions in Kaunas Old Town. After the openings KAUNAS PHOTO invites for the photography projection night under the open sky.
